ZammitDenis Zammit was born on the 17th of July, 1969 in Carpentras, a small town in Provence (France). His schoolboy life had ups and downs, surely due to his dreamy nature that made him escape from a world he did not really understand. When he turned sixteen and after he went through illness and several surgical operations, art became obviousness. He then started to draw whatever was around him and particularly self-portraits. As a teenager he could not recognize himself in the mirror and needed to understand who this new surprising being he was becoming was.
As a consequence, Zammit chose to study in a preparatory art school in 1988. During two years he learnt a lot about art and human relationships. In 1990 he was accepted in a French art school called ?Les Beaux Arts?, situated in Saint Etienne. However, he soon realised that he preferred to study and learn by himself. In 1991, he exhibited his paintings for the first time. The pursuit of the feminine he represented was full of mysticism and abstraction. In 1997, he won a First Prize in Switzerland thanks to this poetical way of representing femininity.
As Zammit also liked to invite people looking at him creating, he performed live painting, first in 1998 in Avignon and then in 2001 in Lyon. This new creative approach permitted him to show people how an artist works and also made him create more spontaneous paintings.
From 2000 to 2004, he exhibited his works in various galleries in France, Spain and Switzerland. He even launched into music in order to become diversified.
Today, Zammit is working with three galleries in France: ?Aux 3 Aches? in Lyon, ?Annie Wable? in Lille, and ?Ambre International? in Sophia Antipolis. His works are more and more focused on portraits and gazes which are painted on new textures such as glued and ripped out paper.
